Hot Babes made the crowds go wild!

On a recent event that took place at Holy Innocent’s High School (HIHS), the audiences were all dazedly by the wonderful performance of the modern dance club.

And among the different performances done by the students, one particularly stood out among the others. This particular performance done by the modern dance club had given the audience a fresh experience and ‘Boomz’ impression towards the school.

Unlike performance which other schools come up with, the HIHS modern dance club had turn a plan old dancing performance into a wild and unexpectedly fresh performance. How they put together different kinds of dance move into one, was a new way to attract their audiences.

For instance, different elements like jazz and hip hop was put together into one unique performance.

It was a new experience to me, it inspired and motivated me. The stage was all theirs to show-off their talents. They did a great job,” said Martin Hoh, one of the audiences.

Hoh also added that he would love to attend another such event.
With all the performers putting in their hearts and soul, the concert was a huge success.

When asked what the key to their success was, one of the dance members said that it was through countless of practicing and re-practicing that allowed them to achieve such success.

“Although, this performance was such a success, we would not be pleased. We will continue to be humble and strive for the better. I hope that we could keep up the good work and achieve something even bigger, in the future,” said Lu Nian Yao, one of the dancers.

She also advised that we should be humble and diligent at all times to help us get even further.

Sec 2 camp sucks/rocks?

HIHS always held an annual level camp during the starting of school. Each level have camp except for the secondary 4 as they need to prepare for their O’ levels.

For the secondary 2 camp, it is held on the 8 – 10 February at Jalan Bahtera. This camp is to promote team work and co-operation.

“I hate camps because they are tiring and required me to endure the blazing sun and I will be homesick.” Nian yao said.

There are a lot of activities examples like high elements, kayaking, rafting and station games arranged for the students.

“I think the Secondary 2 camp is fun! I felt a little bit homesick but it’s quite okay.”

“I like the station games the most especially the chocolate river! Because I got to eat a lot of marshmallows. For the high elements, I didn’t get to play any as there’s no enough time and I’m afraid of heights.” Jolynn commented.

“Kayaking is fun but rafting sucks! Rafting has to stand under the sun for a long time. I can’t stand the sun!

“For the second night in the camp, we have our campfire! I like the part when we are doing a skit and shouted the class cheers! If our school still has any camps, I will attend!”

HI’s Café Opens!

Holy Innocents’ High School presents its new ‘café’ to everyone in April.

Ironically, this unique ‘café’ serves arts instead of coffee and tea.

Presenting ‘Creative Arts For Everyone’, Café @HIHS strives to promote a unique culture of arts and music among everyone, including students and teachers.

To enhance learning of creative arts in the school, the aesthetics department planned some special programmes to expose everyone to different forms of art.

For example, interesting art pieces and information regarding art have been put up all around the school, even in the toilets, to make a better environment for enhancing creative learning about art.

A visual art exhibition, ‘Entrée’, was conducted in the “space”, featuring beautiful artworks by teachers and students.

“The paintings hung on the various walls were very captivating and wonderful,” Jasmine Phua, a sophomore commented.

She also added that she would like to see more of these programmes and exhibitions conducted.

You can easily feel the culture of art in the atmosphere that filled the entire Holy Innocents’ High.

With exciting and attractive performances by the drama, choir and Chinese orchestra displaying their talents in the canteen during the recess period for everyone to join in the fun!

Besides all these performances, students also had opportunities to learn to create their own art pieces through various workshops organized by the teachers and professional art experts. Examples of these are the Food-Art workshop and the batik painting workshop conducted by famous masters to impart their fantastic skills to the students, even including a world-known caricature artist.

The largest and grandest event of April, in Café @HIHS, the school will be “serving” the public with its very own performing arts groups, presenting a major concert ever.

Performing to a full house, tickets were all sold out weeks before the big day when the concert is held on 16 April, Friday.

“I believe that it’s going to be an enjoyable and memorable evening for all, and we certainly will do our best then!” band performer, Charmine Foo exclaimed enthusiastically.

Looking forward to the upcoming concert, performers are now busy practicing and preparing for the lively day.

LTC 'boomz' the march holidays

During the one week holiday, while we were at home drowning in our piles of homework, the student leaders from HIHS were having a 'boomz' of a time!

The school's annual Leadership Training Camp(LTC) trains young student leaders to unleash their fullest potential, training them to be a great leader to lead their fellow schoolmates.

This year's 4days-3nights LTC camp was held at Loola,Indonesia from the 17th march to the 20th march. But as boring as it might seem, the camp actually includes fun activities such as:kayaking, rock climbing, obstacle course and of course, the campfire!

"Although the training was kind of tough, I gained a lot of skills from it,"one of our fellow student leader,Shirnise Lee commented.

Of course, there are some student leaders who were unable to attend the LTC camp due to time constraints.

Elicia Lim,one of those who were unable to attend the camp, said regretfully that she had missed a great opportunity to gain a wonderful experience.

"I'll make sure that I will not miss this opportunity again next year!"Lim also added.
